Flooring Options

12:00 AM

We Just purchased our first home, a nice little fixer upper.  The carpet is a mess.  There is literally a whole in the living room carpet that has just been cut out, so it has to go.  I mean look at this stuff.

There is no question we have to get rid of this stuff, if nothing but for health reasons.  The question is now what do we replace it with?  What is the most durable, beautiful, and cost effective option? Being the researcher I am I laid out all of the options for our home and did a pro con list.  Here were the options we considered.

1. Carpet

  • Warm on the feet and reasonably priced, but not the most attractive or the most durable flooring
2. Laminate Flooring
  • Visually appealing, cost effective, easy to install and very durable, but has a hollow sound, can look cheap and is cold on the feet
3. Wood Flooring
  • Beautiful flooring that has great resell value, but is super expensive and scratches easily
4. Luxury Vinyl Plank
  • Visually appealing, cost effective, easy to install, very durable, water proof, easy to repair, and insulated so your feet stay warm

After finding out about Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring, the new "it thing" in flooring, we knew we had found what we should get.  I must admit the fact that it had the word vinyl in the name made me feel a little hesitant to get it.  Cheap vinyl makes me cringe.  After seeing the Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring I couldn't resist though.  It actually looks better than most laminate flooring, is easier to install, and is cheaper!  Don't believe this stuff can be so great.  Check out these beautiful pictures of LVP.

I do have to say please don't go to Lowes and purchase their version of this stuff.  You can often find a better quality Laminate from cheaper through a local flooring dealer I found.  Their products look better and are more durable.

What do you think?  Have you ever heard of LVP before?  Would you put it in your house? Love to hear your thoughts.
